ECAASU National

Coming to ECAASU 2010? See our Conference Code of Conduct.

ECAASU has three main governing and executive bodies:
Directorate (aka Board of Directors): each director sits on this board for 3 years. The purpose of this board is to realize long term goals for ECAASU and to advise the National and Conference Board on their activities.
National Board: The National Board oversees all ECAASU activities throughout the year, including the organization of advocacy projects, mixers and workshops at various regions along the East Coast, alumni events, and the annual ECAASU conference itself.
Conference Board: The Conference Board is selected by the ECAASU Representatives Council each year, and is compromised of a team of students from the host school. The Conference Board's purpose is to plan an awesome conference, no questions asked. The 2010 ECAASU National Conference is at the University of Pennsylvania.

History

Prior to 2008, ECAASU existed as a number of unincorporated, disjointed, and unrelated school clubs that lacked accountability held over the conference boards and was unable sustain a consistent, unifying mission. However, the 2007 conference organizers at Yale University recognized the value in establishing ECAASU’s core mission of helping Asian Americans eliminate discrimination and extending that mission to include the societal promotion of all minorities. Thus by incorporating and obtaining nonprofit status, the existence of an ECAASU national board would ultimately benefit the public at large that included all ethnicities and genders.

In January of 2008, Articles of Incorporation were filed with the state of Connecticut and soon thereafter the ECAASU Bylaws were passed by the board of directors at the organization’s first report meeting. The first fully recognized National Board was elected soon afterwards in March of 2008.

ECAASU National was born.
